Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any resources for apps/sites that are able to explain grammar in more detail. I'm struggling a little bit with understanding particles and how using one vs not using one changes a sentence's meaning.

For example, one of the sentences in the workbook early on was "那个人是一个胖子。" and although I have since moved on to more advanced lessons it still confuses me why 一个 needs to be in there and how that sentence differs in meaning compared to just "那个人是胖子。" and people who are close to native fluent Mandarin haven't really been able to help me out besides saying "it's there because it is".

Have you tried the Chinese Grammar Wiki? In my experience it has good explanations and many example sentences. You can even look at grammar topics by level.
